Apply for this role

Job description

An established full-service general contractor and construction manager in western Connecticut, with hundreds of completed projects across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. The commercial work includes retail and restaurant fit-outs, hospitality interiors, adaptive reuse, and industrial and warehouse construction. Every project is run by a dedicated team of a senior project manager, a field superintendent, and an estimator, each accountable for their own part of the build.

The Superintendent is the senior leader on site. You own the field from mobilization through certificate of occupancy: schedule, safety, quality, trade coordination, inspections, and the day-to-day relationship with the client, architect, and landlord. You are on site from day one, and you are expected to drive the schedule.

Reports to the Senior Project Manager. Commercial division. Full-time and field-based.

What you'll do

  • Run daily field operations on one or more active projects, from site mobilization through punch list and closeout
  • Build and maintain the 3-week look-ahead, keep it aligned with the master schedule, and hold trades to it
  • Direct and coordinate subcontractors, laborers, and field staff, and resolve sequencing conflicts before they cost time
  • Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and take part in owner, architect, and contractor (OAC) meetings
  • Own site safety: site-specific safety plan, toolbox talks, daily inspections, incident reporting, and a secure perimeter
  • Enforce quality: verify layout and dimensions, inspect work in place against plans and specs, and reject work that does not meet them
  • Schedule and pass municipal inspections and third-party testing, and manage the relationship with local building officials
  • Coordinate with landlords and property or mall management on access, deliveries, after-hours work, and building rules
  • Work with the PM on submittals, RFIs, change order scope, procurement, and long-lead tracking
  • Keep daily logs, photo documentation, manpower reports, and delivery records current
  • Monitor field labor and material costs against budget and flag exposure early
  • Drive punch list completion, the certificate of occupancy, and a clean turnover with no open items
  • Mentor and develop Assistant Superintendents

Compensation

  • $145,000 to $185,000 base plus benefits

Location

Field-based on active project sites in western Connecticut, with travel to sites across the region.

Requirements

What you bring

  • Strong plan and spec reading across architectural, structural, and MEP drawings
  • Working knowledge of building codes, the inspection process, and permitting in CT and NY. Experience in NJ, PA, or MA is a plus. An MA contractor's license is a plus as well.
  • Proven ability to build and hold a schedule on fast-track jobs with hard opening dates
  • OSHA 30 preferred, and First Aid/CPR preferred
  • Comfortable with project management software, a smartphone, and email. Clear writer of daily reports.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to travel to project sites across the region
