Job description
The In-House Health and Safety Assistant supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of workplace health and safety programs. This role helps ensure compliance with relevant regulations, promotes a safe working environment, and assists in minimizing workplace risks and incidents.
Reports to: Corporate Safety Director / Legal Team
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures
- Support regular workplace inspections and risk assessments
- Help investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, and maintain accurate records
- Monitor compliance with safety regulations and internal standards
- Assist in organizing and delivering safety training and awareness programs
- Maintain safety documentation, reports, and logs
- Support emergency preparedness plans, including drills and procedures
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Communicate safety updates and initiatives to employees
- Assist with audits and regulatory inspections
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based with regular time spent in operational and work areas
- May require occasional lifting, standing, or walking through job sites
- Use of safety equipment as required
- Based across multiple company locations in the greater Chicago area, with occasional travel between sites
Key Performance Indicators
- Reduction in workplace incidents
- Timely completion of safety inspections and reports

Requirements
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field preferred)
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety regulations (e.g., OSHA standards in the U.S.)
- Previous experience in a safety-related role is a plus
