Job description
An established full-service general contractor and construction manager in western Connecticut, with hundreds of completed projects across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. The commercial work includes retail and restaurant fit-outs, hospitality interiors, adaptive reuse, and industrial and warehouse construction. Every project is run by a dedicated team of a senior project manager, a field superintendent, and an estimator, each accountable for their own part of the build.
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in running the job site. You take direct ownership of defined pieces of the project, such as specific trades, areas, documentation, or the punch list, and you build toward running your own projects.
Reports to the Superintendent. Commercial division. Full-time and field-based.
What you'll do
- Support daily field operations and cover the site when the Superintendent is off site
- Coordinate assigned subcontractors day to day and confirm manpower, deliveries, and readiness for the next activity
- Help build and update the 3-week look-ahead, and track actual progress against it
- Write daily logs and keep photo documentation, manpower counts, and delivery records current
- Run toolbox talks, carry out daily safety walks, correct hazards on the spot, and keep the site clean and secure
- Verify layout, dimensions, and work in place against the drawings, and raise discrepancies before they get built in
- Track RFIs, submittals, and material deliveries in the field, and flag anything that threatens the schedule
- Schedule and attend inspections and testing, and keep the inspection log
- Build, distribute, and chase the punch list through to closeout
- Attend subcontractor and OAC meetings, take notes, and follow up on action items
- Step in with hands-on work when needed to keep the job moving
Compensation
- $80,000 to $100,000 base, depending on experience, plus benefits
Location
Field-based on active project sites in western Connecticut, with travel to sites across the region. Some early, late, or off-hours work.
Requirements
What you bring
- 2+ years of field experience in commercial or high-end residential construction, as an Assistant Superintendent, Field Engineer, Project Engineer, foreman, or lead carpenter
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Solid understanding of trade sequencing on interior fit-out or ground-up work
- Organized, reliable, and comfortable giving direction to trades
- Comfortable with a smartphone, email, and project management software
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Willingness to travel to project sites across the region, with some early, late, or off-hours work
- High school diploma required. Construction management degree or trade school preferred.
Nice to have

- A trades background in carpentry, framing, or finishes
- Bilingual English and Spanish
- Lift or forklift certification
